Lost Ways Training

The training workshop on Lost Ways was attended by nine members from Clitheroe, Hyndburn and Burnley. All agreed it was a worthwhile exercise and that reclaiming paths which had been lost in history, by error on maps (such as the Eagle at Barrow) and which would improve our network by joining paths at obvious points was a just cause, and needed to be completed before year 2026. The next step is to find someone to coordinate the exercise, who could register all our claims on a computer spreadsheet and who was familiar with map reading. Then teams, working in two’s and threes, would scan the whole of our parishes on maps looking for anomalies and possible claims. We can draw in non-ramblers into this exercise, if they are keen local historians. Changes to walk programme

Tuesday, 24 October.  Meet 1pm at the car park for  Ribchester, leader Keith Allen.

Please note our family walk is scheduled for Saturday, 16 December 10.00am. We do hope that you will bring the younger members of your extended family to this event. There will be lots of interest for them and hopefully some surprises. The walk will be quite short, mostly firm underfoot and a minimum of gradients. Our meeting point will be the usual Chester Avenue car park. The starting point will be Towneley Park, Burnley.

Walks programme 2018
The 2018 programme is now being prepared. Walks coordinator, Tony Mountain, would like to hear from those members offering walks for 2018, including any new leaders.  Contact him on 01282 774840.

Clitheroe Ramblers Walk Leaders evening.

On Thursday, 18 August Clitheroe walk leaders met in West Bradford to adopt the newly revised General Guidelines for walk leaders. Walk leaders enjoyed a presentation on the various aspects of planning walks and dealing with any unexpected issues whilst on the walk. After the presentations by group members, there was an open discussion session to allow leaders to identify areas for further consideration. There were many positive and helpful recommendations to help promote enjoyable and safe walks.  A further part of the initiative was to issue walk leaders with a safety pack that included first aid kit, torch, whistle, foil blanket and Hi Viz vest. Walk leaders who were unable to collect their safety kit on the evening will be able to collect a pack from any of the committee members at the start of their walk. The evening was rounded off with leaders enjoying a buffet provided by the social committee members. Many thanks to the social committee and walk leaders for their support and contributions to a very successful evening, which was organised by Tony Mountain,Walks Coordinator.
